As the final project of GA WDI, we created an event management app, allowing users to vote on their preferred times for an event to establish when an event would be set. The project was done in a three person group to further our skills in working in a team-based environment using React. The main features were coded in pairs or in a trio, but I worked specifically on the backend side of the app and authentication.
This project was created using mongoDB, Express.js, AngularJS and Node.js - A MEAN stack app. The focus of this project was to work in a group environment. The app itself was intended as a platform to trade vinyl records between users. I set up a lot of backend features, front-end functionality when it came to switching the states of traded records and testing.
For this project, I created a website where a user would be able to find and commission different digital artists, like their favourite artwork and if they were an artist themselves, they’d be able to set up a profile to advertise their creation. Through the process, I contacted several artists to get first hand feedback as to what their pains and needs were when it came to websites such as this.
My first project was a grid based stealth game where the player had to sneak around a floor of a castle, gathering up all the treasures whilst avoiding non-player characters, who acted as guards. We went through the lifecycle of a project, from the idea-phase to wireframing, planning out the project week, and then working on it - reaching the MVP and polishing the product to make it presentable.
I’m a web developer who has always been interested in tech. Up until recently, I was mostly a user, but I’ve found a lot of gratification in creating something myself.
Having served in the military, I took on a mindset of always trying to get a maximum from a situation. It has served me well thus far, during my quick dip into product management. During the internship, I learned how an agile team works and I found myself inspired to learn front-end development.
I enrolled at General Assembly to study Web Development. I really enjoy the fast pace of the course and the fact that it satisfies my strong curiosity for the tech world.
Having gone through the course I’m as inspired as ever, looking for a Front-End Development job in a company with a user-focused mindset.
I’m a manager for a online social role-playing community (around 30 people). I work with people to improve their skills, listen to their feedback and organise events for the members of the community based on their wants and needs.
I organise Dungeons and Dragon games on a weekly basis, running a session every Sunday, in an effort to collaboratively tell a story.
